In the USA, SASCU is a registered 501c3 non-profit, tax exempt organization as SAVE THE STREET CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL, EIN: 45-2822269 and is a member organization of Consortium for Street Children (CSC) International, Uganda Child Rights NGO Network (UCRNN), CRANE Network and Girls Not Brides Uganda. In delivering its mandate, SASCU partners with various state and non – state child focused organizations operating at district, national, regional and international levels plus other faith based institutions. Established by former street children in 2005 as a child protection agency, to respond to the growing crisis of street children and other vulnerable children, SASCU’s operational mandate is derived from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) and various national legal and policy instruments including the Children Act (CAP 59) and the Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children (OVC) Policy. Since its inception, as a CBO based in Kampala, SASCU has evolved over the years to become one of the leading NGOs working to protect and promote the rights of children living on the street and in street – like situations across the country.
